4 Common Drugs to AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

Are you sitting down? Because I have a piece of information to share that may make you feel weak in the knees, and not in a good way. Prescription drugs are the 4th leading cause of death in the world.

Did that give you pause? It should have.

What this means is the pharmaceutical industry is literally getting away with murder and earning billions of dollars while doing so. There is a vicious cycle being perpetuated in the health industry and many, if not most, Americans are unaware of it.

People typically get sick because they are not getting proper nutrients from their diets. They go to their doctor who prescribes a medication for their particular illness. This prescription drug simply masks the symptoms but does not get to the root cause of the illness. This first medication then causes a serious side effect, which in turn causes the doctor to prescribe even more meds, which cause more side effects and on and on. And people die.

And just to be clear, I’m not talking about people dying from abusing pain medication, I’m talking about the fact that prescription drugs taken as directed kill 100,000 Americans each year.

According to a survey conducted by the CDC:

  • 48.7% of people used at least one prescription drug within the last 30 days.
  • 21.8% of people used three or more prescription drugs in the past 30 days.
  • 10.7% of people used five or more prescription drugs in the past 30 days.

This study was conducted between 2009 and 2012 – so these numbers have most likely gone up.

While any prescription medication can be dangerous, there are 4 commonly prescribed drugs you should avoid like the plague:

Januvia

In the last few years the FDA has approved quite a few new medications to treat type 2 diabetes. These new meds include Januvia (sitagliptin), Janumet (sitagliptin + metformin), Nesina(alogliptin), Onglyza (saxagliptin), and Tradjenta (linagliptin). Let’s talk about Januvia because for some reason it is perhaps the one most marketed and also one of the best-selling diabetes drugs currently on the market. In fact it earns billions of dollars each year for its manufacturer, Merck.

Recently the FDA issues the following caution:

“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning that the type 2 diabetes medicines sitagliptin, saxagliptin, linagliptin, and alogliptin may cause joint pain that can be severe and disabling. We have added a new Warning and Precaution about this risk to the labels of all medicines in this drug class, called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors.”

It has also been noted by the administration that joint pain symptoms can develop within one day of beginning the medication and have been reported to stop as soon as patients stopped taking the medication.

If you are currently taking Januvia or any of the other medications listed, we strongly suggest you investigate healthier natural protocols or, at the very least, speak with your doctor about switching to a new type 2 diabetes medication.

Cortisone

Cortisone is widely used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, asthma, allergies and many other conditions. It alleviates symptoms by mimicking the effects of hormones the body produces in the adrenal glands. However, when this medication is prescribed in doses that exceed the amount normally produced by the adrenal glands, corticosteroids can then suppress inflammation in the body.

The side effects from this medication are high blood sugars, osteoporosis and bone fractures, thin skin and slow wound healing. For a more natural approach to treating inflammation, try Omega-3s instead.

Anti-Depressants

Anti-depressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Lovan and Luvox belong to a class of drugs that allow the feel good hormone Serotonin to bind to receptor sites on the brain. This mechanism has been shown to alter behavior and mood.

Sadly, people who need relief from their depression and take these drugs  end up with horrible side effects that cause them even more distress. Problems like weight gain, erectile dysfunction and loss of sexual desire, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, constipation, dizziness, anxiety and agitation.

Though depression is very personal and everyone’s course of treatment is different, there are more natural alternatives to enhance the uptake of Serotonin. For instance, aerobic exercise releases the hormone, and vitamin B6 supports the production and function of serotonin, melatonin and dopamine in the brain.

Cholesterol Lowering Drugs (Statin Drugs)

There are many types of cholesterol lowering drugs on the market. Some “work” by absorbing bile acids produced by cholesterol in the GI tract and cause them to be excreted. This act then lowers the cholesterol circulating in the blood. Statins reduce cholesterol production in the liver and change the way LDL (the Lousy cholesterol) enters the cells.

The side effects of these drugs are also quite nasty. They cause something called Myositis, which is an inflammation of the muscles. (Don’t worry, your doctor can just put you on Cortisone… see how the avalanche starts?). They can also cause a rare disorder called Rhabdomyolysis which causes muscles all over the body to become weak and painful. These damaged muscles then release proteins into the blood that the kidneys end up trying to flush out of the body. Eventually the kidneys become damaged and may eventually fail.

Trying to lower your cholesterol in a healthier, more natural manner? Clean up your diet and eat whole foods with plenty of fruits and vegetables.

This New Year, say yes to health using safe and natural treatments and no to anything that can do more harm than good.

I was forced to stop my high cholesterol meds last year because of muscle soreness and fatigue. I also just did not want the statins. I also came off of the Zoloft that was prescribed due to anxiety. I did not talk to my doctor about this as he would have frowned upon my decision. Now, of course, I am concerned about high cholesterol and the warnings that are thrown at us about having heart attacks and strokes. However, living with the side effects with that medicine was unacceptable to me. My biggest fear is that once the doctor knows I took myself off the meds it will be recorded in my chart and then will affect my insurance. I have seen this before. It is too bad that we are required to consume these meds without really knowing the side effects. Overall the population is way too naïve and trusting. I have just had blood work done this week and will have to face the music about the cholesterol medicine with my doctor very soon. I may have to plead my case and hope he understands my views.
I am still on Meloxicam because of knee surgery two years ago. That will be my next big break very soon. I realize that inflammation is our biggest threat, however, I believe our diet is the culprit and that we need to get that under control ASAP. The packaged food, the GMO products, the bread and the dairy are all being watched by me closely at this time. It is not stress-free, but well worth the fight. If you have some good tips on inflammation and how to fight it I would appreciate hearing them.
I would rather go out in flames than be poisoned slowly.

Maxine, you don't need to "go out" at all, whether it's in flames or otherwise. I think you're right, the first step is always going to be fixing your diet, and this blog has tons of articles to help you do just that. Same thing with inflammation, the articles in this blog (specifically the ones under "Bone and Joint") will give you a lot of info on dealing with inflammation. In fact, I promise to start working on an article specifically on inflammation for you as soon as possible, so please keep an eye out for that.

Stay strong Maxine, we wish you all the good health and happiness in the world :)

    Please elaborate..
Which are the top 3 causes of death in the United States?
From whom did you research the facts on these fatal drugs?

    Thank you

      Hi Patti,

All of our articles are written using the most advanced and up-to-date research available.

You can find the source of our quote, which acknowledges 'Adverse Drug Reaction' (ADR) as being the 4th leading causes of death, in the June 2013 edition of the Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics. And the scariest part is that these statistics are only for patients inside hospitals, which means, if we took into account all the incidents of ADR OUTSIDE of hospitals too... the total number would be significantly bigger! Here is the link to that source: http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2282014

Keep an eye out for more from us, and be sure to let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks :)

    Hallo in USA!
This is greetings from Sweden. I just have taken part of your writing about drugs we not need. They are most used to conceal symptoms - but the biggest cause of all: The profits of the pharmaceutical industry!
Thank you very much for taking up this miserable ratio. Doctors and many, many well educated persons are following the recommendations from the medical industry and, as I mean, it is inexcusable. It’s incomprehensible that those persons can go such errands – they surely know the risks with the meds and nevertheless they are recommending them. Once again – incomprehensible!
As you say, the drugs, all four you mention above and more, are largely deadly if not in months, after several years. In Sweden, you know, there is the same problem with the healthcare as there are in USA.
The only thing to do is to stay awake and to try to give knowledge to people around you. Exactly as you do in the mailing project!
    Yours sincerely
    Rolf Aronsson
